The Petulant Poetess

"I want a Harry Potter fanfiction archive where readers can easily find stories they love and writers can share their work in a supportive community."

The Petulant Poetess is a dedicated Harry Potter fanfiction archive that goes beyond simple story hosting. Readers can search and filter by character, genre, or category, while authors get their own hubs with tools to manage stories, favorites, and reviews. It’s a custom platform built to feel like home for both writers and fans.

The Challenge

The Petulant Poetess was created as a specialized alternative to big, catch-all fanfiction platforms. Our goal was to design a space where the Harry Potter fandom could flourish, with the tools and structure that generic archives don’t provide.

We built a robust story archive with advanced filtering and sorting so readers can browse by character, genre, length, or popularity. Authors get their own dashboards to publish, track feedback, and manage favorites, while readers can personalize the site with skins and reading settings that fit their style. Beyond the archive itself, the site includes a community message board, writing resources, and moderated submission rules to maintain quality and safety.

Because it was built from scratch, the platform could handle the unique taxonomy of the Harry Potter universe, support a large and active community, and offer features that go well beyond what could be done with a basic CMS or plug-in. The result is a fanfiction hub that feels professional, community-driven, and deeply aligned with the fandom it serves.
